Back to the roots: Standing, Twisting & Balancing

In the second series of Back to the Roots, Mackenzie and Katya will work through standing poses, twists, and balances that are frequently seen in class and often misunderstood. In the first half of the workshop, students will learn more about proper alignment and engagement in order to move from poses such as a strong warrior 2 into a lengthened side angle or revolved side angle. As a newcomer you’ll benefit from a breakdown of intentions behind each pose and proper muscular engagement and alignment. A more experienced yogi will benefit from refining their alignment, breaking down less useful patterns and learning how to advance their standing poses, such as moving into binds. In the second half of the workshop, the focus will be shifted to balancing poses. After connecting with the breath and establishing a drishti (focal point), students will build up the muscular engagement to support balancing poses like tree pose and half moon and support more advanced variations like revolved half moon. With two teachers in the room each student will receive individualized support and guidance to ensure attendees leave with expanded knowledge that they can bring to any class.
